DETAILED ITINERARY

  • Day 1 | 2

    Beijing

    Meet your local WildChina guide at the arrival hall of the airport • Spend the rest of the day at your leisure • Enjoy a welcome dinner • Explore the imposing Forbidden City, where emperors ruled for 500 years • Weave your way through Beijing's ancient, have lunch in Beijing's hutong alleyways • Explore your creative side by trying various traditional activities such as Chinese yo-yo in a traditional courtyard • Hike up Jingshan and take in a commanding view over the Forbidden City • Wander the popular imperial neighborhoods around Houhai

  • Day 3 | 4

    Beijing (cont.)

    Enjoy a picnic on the Huanghuacheng portion of the Great Wall and take in spectacular views during a hike • Return to Beijing and spend the evening at your leisure • Test your skills at the delicate art of water calligraphy at the Temple of Heaven, a historical park filled with religious buildings where locals gather to dance, sing, play chess, or amble around • Visit the Bird's Nest and Water Cube at Beijing Olympic Park • Spend a relaxing afternoon at the Summer Palace, where tranquil waters, green foliage, ancient bridges and imperial buildings converge in what used to be the Emperor's private garden

    Xi'an

    Gaze into the heart of Xi'an as you set out along the city's ancient city wall • View the proudly unflinching Terracotta Warriors • Learn about Xi'an's 1,300 year old Muslim community by visiting the Great Mosque • Experience Xi'an with more than just your eyes by sampling some of Xi'an's famous dumplings • Explore the sights and sounds of Xi'an's Muslim Quarter • Admire the countless terracotta figurines and burial objects of the Hanyang Tombs, the resting spot of a Han Dynasty emperor, from atop a glass walkway

  • Day 7

    Guilin & Longsheng

    Spend the day hiking at your own pace through minority villages along the verdant, softly undulating Dragon's Backbone Rice Terraces • Spend the evening in Guilin at your leisure

  • Day 8

    Yangshuo

    Rise and head to the Guilin Docks for a cruise down the Li River • Float down the Li River, whose scenery is so picturesque it is featured on the 20RMB note • Take in Yangshuo's countryside and the curves of the Yulong River while taking a leisurely hike along its shore • Check into hotel and relax in Yangshuo • Dine in West Street, Yangshuo's lively shopping area • Enjoy the spectacle of Impression Liusanjie, choreographed by the mastermind behind the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony, in a natural amphitheater

  • Day 9

    Yangshuo

    Bike or hike through Yangshuo's enchanting scenery, with karst mountains and mist swirling around you • Learn how to cook like a local in a cooking lesson

  • Day 10 | 11

    Shanghai

    Enjoy the evening at your leisure. We recommend experiencing a snapshot of local life by walking around Fuxing Park, a meeting spot for fitness dancers and taichi enthusiasts • Take a walk down the streets of the French Concession • Enjoy lunch in one of the chic restaurants or cafes of Xintiandi • Explore Shanghai's Jewish Quarter • Visit the Shanghai Museum • Enjoy an ERA Acrobatics Performance that fuses Chinese acrobatics with modern technology

  • Day 12

    Suzhou

    Visit Suzhou, a verdant city which houses the lion's share of China's traditional Chinese Gardens Wander through Zhuozheng Garden, a secluded sprawl of classical verdure created by an imperial historian seeking solace • Step into the Nets and Master Garden, a compact garden designed by fengshui masters • Take your time at the Suzhou Museum, a series of cascading white stucco walls, glass panes and footbridges spun together by the illustrious I.M. Pei • If there is time, enjoy a relaxing boat ride along the Suzhou section of the Grand Cana • Return to Shanghai in the late afternoon

    Shanghai
